An invitation to shape the Dyslexia Outreach Team's (DOT's) new offer to support learners with Dyscalculia and Maths Difficulties
From September 2019, the Dyslexia Outreach Team (DOT) will be providing support to Suffolk schools for learners who have a specific learning difficulty with numeracy. This free workshop will give an overview of Dyscalculia as a specific learning difficulty and best practice regarding assessment procedures and teaching recommendations. Integral to the workshop will be opportunities for attendees to present current school perspectives and concerns around supporting students with Maths difficulties.
Planning and Delivering an Effective Literacy Intervention for Learners with Dyslexia and Speech, Language, Communication
This joint training, delivered by specialist teachers from the Speech, Language and Communication Needs Team (SLCN) and the Dyslexia Outreach Team (DOT), will demonstrate approaches for effective delivery of a phonics-based, multi-sensory, structured intervention for learners struggling to acquire literacy skills due to dyslexia and/or difficulties with speech, language and communication.

using a ‘directed discovery’ approach for introducing phonemes and concepts
strategies for over-learning and supporting memory
onset and rime, syllable division and morphology as decoding strategies

A set of three linked, cumulative sessions outlining best practice around literacy assessment for individual learners with literacy difficulties/dyslexia to inform intervention planning:
