Dyslexia Awareness and the Secondary School Classroom (Cancelled)
This workshop will give the attendee an overview of what dyslexia is and provide a range of strategies for meeting the needs of learners with dyslexia. The following questions will be addressed: • What is dyslexia and how can I identify it in my classroom? • What strategies can I employ to support those learners with literacy difficulties and /or dyslexia? • How can I improve my inclusive practice?
This session will give the attendee an overview of how dyslexia presents in pupils aged 4 – 7. The range of possible profiles will be outlined, and guidelines around identification will be shared. A range of strategies/approaches for meeting the needs of learners experiencing difficulties with the acquisition of literacy skills will be explored, including establishing a supportive learning environment. This practical workshop will aim to familiarise SENDCos, Classroom Teachers and Teaching Assistants with how to use the assistive tools in Clicker Writer and the Clicker Sets to support learners with difficulties recording at their ability level in the classroom. Attendees will need to bring a laptop with Clicker 6/7 to the training session and be able to connect to the O2 internet service. We will be looking at the following tools; spell checker, predictive text, voice recorder, sentence sets, connect sets, word banks, Clicker board, Talk sets and Matching Sets.
