Training Provider Vertas Swimming
Event Description This is a 1.5 hour Awareness Course consisting of practical and theoretical components. Course members should be aware that this is a practical course involving reaching, and wading rescues, recovery of manikins from pool floor, be able to fully submerge up to 1.2m depth, lifting, moving and turning others in water. Covid measures are in place.

The course, in 3 parts, covers:

Part 1 - safe practice

Part 2 - practical water rescues

Part 3 - practical assessment

Training Objectives This Awareness Course is designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to those that undertake a teaching and/or lifesaving role with direct responsibility for a group of pupils swimming in shallow water (less than 1.2 metres).

It will provide:
- up to date knowledge of basic paediatric life support
- ability to deal with emergencies that may arise when teaching swimming in shallow water.

Successful candidates will be able required to demonstrate their ability to effect the rescue of a child from the pool floor, recover them on to the pool side.

The award is valid for 24 months.

Dress Code Course members should be aware that this is a practical course involving reaching and throwing rescues, recovery of manikins from the pool floor, lifting, moving and turning others in the water. Delegates should wear appropriate casual poolside clothing and bring with them: * swimwear * towel/warm clothing * shorts and t-shirt or similar that can be worn in the water *whistle *poolside footwear *cold drinks/snacks
Course Pre-requisites This Awareness Course is designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to those that undertake a teaching role with Direct Responsibility for a group of pupils swimming in shallow water, during normal school hours and term time at a pool/leisure centre with Lifeguards present. It does not cover those that teach at their own school on-site pool, or outside of school hours/term. For those wishing to teach swimming outside of school hours must hold a National Rescue Qualification.
