Dyslexia in Reception and Key Stage 1

Event Description This session will give the attendee an overview of how dyslexia presents in pupils aged 4 – 7. The range of possible profiles will be outlined, and guidelines around identification will be shared. A range of strategies/approaches for meeting the needs of learners experiencing difficulties with the acquisition of literacy skills will be explored, including establishing a supportive learning environment. There will be an emphasis on developing inclusive practice to support the early identification of and provision for those at risk of dyslexia, with clear links to the ‘assess – plan – do – review’ cycle. The session will include opportunities to reflect on existing practice and share ideas.
Training Objectives Attendees will be introduced to the key features of dyslexia and how these can be presented by learners in Reception/Key Stage 1.
Issues relating to early identification will be discussed.
A range of areas will be explored in relation to developing best practice around identifying and addressing the needs of learners in this age-range.
