Event Description |
This joint training, delivered by specialist teachers from the Speech, Language and Communication Needs Team (SLCN) and the Dyslexia Outreach Team (DOT), will demonstrate approaches for effective delivery of a phonics-based, multi-sensory, structured intervention for learners struggling to acquire literacy skills due to dyslexia and/or difficulties with speech, language and communication. Topics covered will include: • an overview of phonological awareness and its teaching alongside development of phonemic knowledge • structuring a 1:1 intervention session • multi-sensory approaches to introducing phonemes and concepts • strategies for over-learning and supporting memory |

Training Objectives | Attendees will learn about: • the co-occurrence of dyslexia and language difficulties/DLD; • different phonological skills, activities to promote phonological awareness and informal and formal assessment; • how to structure a literacy intervention session for learners struggling to acquire literacy skills due to dyslexia and/or difficulties with speech, language and communication. |
