Event Description |
This training will give teachers or teaching assistants practical strategies to address social understanding issues for pupils with mild to severe SEN. It is delivered by a member of the West Suffolk Special Schools Outreach team,who is a County Key Practitioner for PHSE and has 20 years of experience teaching social understanding to pupils with SEN. It is aimed at people working in both mainstream and SEN contexts with pupils in all phases of education from KS1 to KS4. It will include an examination of how to use the CASPA Personal Social Development levels to set targets and track progress in social understanding. A strategy will be given to enable practitioners to write and use stories to help pupils to address social issues in school. The approach will be practical and problem solving and include a case study; there will be time to discuss solutions to your social understanding issues. |

Training Objectives | - to provide participants with an overview of the importance of social understanding to ensure pupil wellbeing, learning readiness and an ability to meet life's challenges. - to develop practical approaches to improving pupils' social understanding in a cohort who may need a more structured approach to be successful. - to look at tracking small steps of Personal Social Development progress in a practical way, applicable to an everyday classroom context |
